Herdwick Place is ideally situated to embark on mountain and valley walks from the front door, climbing, and exploring in the spectacular Langdale Valley and it is situated within walking distance of the village of Chapel Stile, with its shop and pub.
This mid terraced house has contemporary décor of a very high standard with quality furnishings, many of them hand made.
It is excellently appointed with the art and craftsmanship of local people chosen carefully by the owners, and is arguably the best appointed house available in Thrang Brow.

30/09/2007 - THE LAKES HAS BRITAINS FAVOURITE VIEW !


Sally Whittaker at Coniston Water
Wastwater was officially awarded the prestigious title of ‘Britain’s Favourite View’ by viewers of the ITV show of the same name, hosted by Sir Trevor McDonald.

Backed by Coronation Street actress Sally Whittaker and Cumbria Tourism, Wastwater triumphed over the Gower Peninsula in Wales, Bamburgh Castle in Northumberland and Stangford Lough in Northern Ireland in the live final.

Picking up the accolade on Wastwater’s behalf, Sally Whittaker said: “I’m really thrilled and hopefully even more people will go off to the Lake District now. There are so many beautiful views in the Lake District – every view is amazing and it is such an inspirational and magical place to be.”


28/09/2007 - Coniston Walking Festival - 28-30th September 2007

Held for the first time this year, we were pleased to help organise and sponsor the event.
We welcomed well known mountaineer, Simon Yates, who led a walk over Coniston Old Man, and then gave a lecture in the evening about his adventures in South America.Thanks to all for a great weekend !

27/09/2007 - Monk Coniston Restoration Project

Today The National trust invited broadcaster Eric Robson to formally open the new paths and restored gardens. The opening was attended by many local people who have had connections with Monk Coniston.
Phil is shown here with NT property manager Jim Loxham at the spot where he took the photo from all those years ago !


27/09/2007 - National Trust - Monk Coniston Restoration Project


1971 !
In 1971, Philip Johnston was invited to work for hf Holidays as a mountain walks leader at their Monk Coniston Hall centre leased from The National Trust.
This 'holiday job' led to his lifelong passion for The Lakes and the subsequent purchase of the ruined buildings in Coppermines Valley 10 years later.
In 1971 the Monk Coniston kitchen garden was still in full production as the photo taken then by Phil here shows -

15/09/2007 - NEW - Stables Cottage - Far Sawrey, Nr Hawkshead


This delightful little "upside down" cottage, next to our Hayloft Cottage has a view to Windermere Lake from the sitting room window.
It shares the 3 acre grounds of Sawrey Knotts with its neighbours.

31/08/2007 - Our "new" Veteran truck


We have aquired a 1918 Phoenix 11.9 Tourer "truck" to assist with maintenance and marketing.

On sunny days this 90 year old vehicle can be see outside our offices on The Bridge in Coniston Village.


19/08/2007 - NEW - Brook Cottage - Coniston


Situated in popular Church Beck Close, near the middle of the village this end terraced cottage is near Penny Rigg & Mountain Ash Cottages. The owner has just spent some time having many parts of the cottage refurbished.

31/07/2007 - Cumbria Tourism - Committee Election


Cumbria Tourism is the 'umbrella' for tourism businesses in Cumbria and The Lake District.Its 42 staff help the Government organisation 'Visit Britain' oversee quality inspections, and it promotes staff training, business development and marketing.
There are 2,300 cumbria business members represented on a commercial members committee of 21.
Earlier this year Philip Johnston (The Coppermines) was elected by the members to represent them on this committee.
